If you like happy books where everything is sunshine and rainbows, then this is not the book for you. Spilled Milk is a bok of unimaginable heroism and unbelievable courage to stand up for what’s right; even when you end up being one of the few standing.
It’s a beautiful story based on true events that will both break your heart, inspire you, and leave you ‘ugly crying’ as author K.L. Randis puts it.
When Brooke Nolan begins to realize her home life is far from normal she finds herself diving through the proverbial rabbit hole in search of justice -and a shot for some sort of normalcy- for herself and her family. It becomes clear that she is in it for the long haul from the moment she speaks her truth out loud for the first time.
Even now, in a time where survivors of abuse are often labeled as liars, or blamed for the actions of the aggressor, this book screams in the face of the issues that surround the system made to support the survivors. It speaks of the true strength and moving forward in your life in a healthy and meaningful way; a way that not everyone can wrap their mind around having endured that kind of abuse.
K.L. Randis has an inexplicable way of dropping you into the scene, immersing you in every wave of emotion. Beautifully written! A must-read for empowering survivors and their support systems.
I rate this 5 out of 5 stars for two reasons;
- the first being that, it’s a beautiful story of triumph over the evil in this world, and the ability to overcome even the most destructive obstacles.
- the second being that, since it is based on true events, it’s a hauntingly raw and honest account about something that is very difficult for many people to openly talk about, let alone write a debut novel about.
